Lansing Lugnuts News Release
BOWLING GREEN, Kent. - Robi Estrada supplied an early two-run double to back up a strong performance by Alexander Colome, and the Bowling Green Hot Rods (4-2; 35-40) shut out the Lansing Lugnuts (4-2; 40-35), 2-0, on Wednesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.
With two outs in the second inning, Estrada's two-out liner off of Lansing starter Dave Sever (2-4) plated both Tomas Francisco and Julio Cedeno.
His teammates made the blow stand up.
Colome (5-5) struck out six Lugnuts over 6 2/3 innings, scattering four hits and three walks. Jake Sullivan and Scott Shuman provided 2 1/3 perfect relief, with Shuman nailing down the ninth for 11th save.
Sever finished with six innings of three-hit, five-strikeout work in the losing cause.
The Lugnuts' finest scoring opportunity came in the first inning, with Kenny Wilson tagged out at the plate attempting to score on a Kevin Nolan single. The Nolan base hit extended his team-high hitting streak to 14 games.
Lansing opens up a three-game series on Thursday night at 7:30 at South Bend. Lugnuts right-hander Ryan Tepera (7-2, 3.04) opposes Silver Hawks right-hander Scottie Allen (2-2, 5.25).
The Lansing Lugnuts' next home game is on Sunday, July 4th, at Cooley Law School Stadium, a special 7:05 p.m. start time with LAFCU Fireworks following the game.
