December 28, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast did their best to repeat the comeback performance they showed last night but fell short in the extra frame, dropping a close 3-2 decision to the Reading Royals at the Powerade Centre on Monday night.

The Beast found themselves in a 2-0 hole near the beginning of the second period thanks to a first period goal from Adam Comrie and a second period tally from Derek Mathers but similar to the night before, the Beast dug deep and moiunted a comeback attempt.

Just over a minute after Mathers gave the Royals a 2-0 lead, Travis Brown picked up his second goal in as many games. He accepted a pass from Jordan Henry, found some space and sent a howitzer of a slap shot that found its way through Royals starting goaltender Martin Ouellette at 3:49 of the second period.

The Beast defense flexed its muscles through the opening two periods and held the Royals to four shots in both the first and second periods, outshooting their opponent 20-8 through 40 minutes.

Their tenacity paid off late in the second frame as Scott Howes found himself in on goal on a partial breakaway. His first shot attempt was stopped by Ouellette but the rebound was left in the blue paint and poked home by Howes on the power play at 12:50 of the second period, with Brandon Marino and starting goaltender Trevor Cann drawing the assists.

The Royals found their legs in the third period and outshot the Beast 7-4, but both teams buckled down defensively and played to a scoreless final frame, forcing overtime for the second consecutive night.

At the 4:27 mark of the extra period, Robbie Czarnik collected the puck behind the goal line, made his way into the slot and slammed the puck behind Cann, giving the win to the Royals.

The Royals' Ouellette was the busier of the two goaltenders and finshed the game with 26 saves. Cann finished the game with three goals allowed on 17 shots.

Notes: The Beast finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play and a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. Molson Three Stars: 3) Scott Howes 2) Travis Brown 1) Robbie Czarnik.

The Beast have now played their final home game of 2015. The club has two games left before ringing in 2016, including tomorrow, December 29 on the road against the Fort Wayne Komets. The next Beast home game will take place on January 9 against the Kalamazoo Wings. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25.
