Walleye make it five wins in a row : Toledo took a decisive victory over the Wheeling in the lone game of this past week to push its season best winning streak to five consecutive. Newcomer Tyler Maxwell scored once with an assist to lead the Walleye to Saturday's 4-1 win over the Wheeling Nailers.

Packing the barn : The Walleye did it again on Saturday night, posting the fourth sellout crowd (in nine home games) at the Huntington Center with 8,200 fans in attendance. Toledo has seen a standing room only crowd for all four Saturday night events this season and is averaging 6,892 fans per game this year (second in the league to Fort Wayne's 7,213).

Goaltender switch : Goaltender Jeff Lerg has been red hot for the Walleye winning five straight games and has started seven in a row. During that time, he has won ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors and has posted a stellar 1.97 goals against average with a .936 save percentage. Today, the 29-year-old is off to the AHL to join the Grand Rapids Griffins while Jake Paterson is assigned down to the Walleye. Paterson did not get in a game with the Griffins and has a 5-4-2 record with Toledo this year. The 21-year-old goaltender has a 2.53 GAA and .921 SVP with the Walleye in his first professional season. He last started on December 9 vs. Evansville.

Power play continues its torrid pace : Toledo's power play unit struck again Saturday night vs. Wheeling going one of two. The unit has found pay dirt in a season high four straight games and is 6-12 (50%) over that span. For the season, Toledo has the third ranked power play in the ECHL at 22.0% (22 goals in 100 opportunities).

North Division dominance : With the win Saturday, Toledo continues to own its home division sporting a record of 8-2-1 in 11 games against North division teams. The Walleye are 4-1-0 vs. Brampton, 2-0-1 against Kalamazoo and 2-1-0 when skating against Wheeling.

On the hook : With the holidays nearly over, Toledo will grind through a four game week starting Wednesday night against Elmira. The Jackals will also be in Toledo on Sunday. These are the first and only meetings this year between the teams. Toledo is 12-10-0 all-time against Elmira including 4-1-0 a season ago. Thursday, the lone road game of the week, sees Toledo skate in Cincinnati. Walleye and Cyclones have split the first two meetings this year with Toledo taking a 2-1 shootout win on November 4th in the last meeting. Saturday night, the Fort Wayne Komets come to Toledo. The Walleye have a win, a loss and an overtime defeat in three meeting this year with the Komets. Toledo did defeat Fort Wayne 6-4 (November 21) in the lone game played in Toledo.

Winterfest Fun : Wednesday night is a Winterfest Downtown Doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. when the Bowling Green Falcons take on the Western Michigan Broncos in college hockey action prior to the Walleye and Jackals. Saturday features a pre-game open skating event at the Huntington Center and the game is Superhero vs. Villain night. The first Sunday home game of the season features a birthday party for mascot Spike and after the game is a post-game open skate with the Walleye players.
