Beast Battle Hard But Drop Close One to Thunder

GLENS FALLS, NEW YORK - The Brampton Beast were the better team through the majority of their first ever game at Glens Falls Civic Centre but the Adirondack Thunder proved why they're one of the best teams in the ECHL as they topped the Beast 5-2 on Friday night.
The Beast starting line of Luc-Olivier Blain, Scott Howes and Brandon Marino with Mike Vernace and Jeremie Blain on the blue line, clicked immediately for the Beast.
Vernace sent a shot on goal that was knocked down by Thunder starter Scott Wedgewood, right into the wheelhouse of Howes, who notched his team-leading eighth of the season just 11 seconds into the game.
The Beast dominated the remainder of the period and threw 19 shots against Wedgewood in the opening frame alone.
The Beast's persistence paid off in the final minute of the first period as Reggie Traccitto located a Jeremie Blain rebound from a tough angle and roofed a wrist shot over the goaltender's glove at 19:31.
The Thunder got one back near the halfway point of the second frame. Rob Bordson gathered the puck at the faceoff circle to the left of Beast goaltender Bonar and picked the top blocker corner with 9:03 to go in the period.
Adirondack tied the game with a shorthanded goal from Ryan Lomberg at 12:26. After a big hit sent a Beast skater flying, Lomberg pounced on a loose puck and slapped it behind Bonar for his fifth of the year.
The Thunder jumped ahead with 15:04 remaining in the game as a point shot got through a crowd and beat the goaltender on the power play. Mitchell Heard got credit for the goal as the Thunder took a 3-2 lead.
Michael Kirkpatrick made it a 4-2 game with three minutes remaining in the game, scoring his eighth goal of the year on a two-on-one.
Gunnar Hughes added an empty netter to end the scoring with 1:30 left to play in the game.
Wedgewood was sensational in shutting down the Beast offense and made 39 saves. Bonar ended his night with a strong finish and allowed four goals on 30 shots.

The Beast are back in action on Sunday, December 6 at 2:00 PM as they take on the visiting Kalamazoo Wings. The Beast own a 1-0 record so far this season against Kalamazoo.
