
Toledo Powers Past the Fuel 5-2

(Indianapolis, IN) A.J. Jenks scored two power play goals to lead Toledo to a 5-2 win Friday night in Indy. The Walleye are unbeaten in regulation over ten straight games (7-0-3) which sets a new Toledo Walleye record. Toledo has an overall record of 11-5-1-3 while 9-4-1-2 on the road.
For a seventh consecutive game, Toledo allowed the first goal of the game as Indy took a 1-0 lead at 8:42 of the first period. The Walleye tied the game with a power play goal at 13:04 of the period when Marek Tvrdon fed a pass to the side of the net that A.J. Jenks (6th) tapped into the back of the net. Toledo took the lead when Beau Schmitz (2nd) took a pass at center ice for a breakaway and buried a wrist shot past Indy goaltender Mac Carruth at 19:00.
Tyler Sikura (5th) broke free and scored a shorthanded breakaway goal at 1:32 of the second period for a 3-1 Walleye lead. The Fuel countered with a power play goal at 2:19 of the period for a 3-2 Toledo after two periods. Toledo extended the lead with another power play goal from Jenks at 5:28 of the third period. Tyler Sikura added the empty net goal.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson stopped 29 of 31 shots and has a record of 5-3-2. Toledo has a season record of 2-0-1 vs. Indy. Tonight's win broke the Toledo Walleye record of nine consecutive games unbeaten in regulation set from December 30, 2014 through January 24, 2015 (7-0-2). Walleye Transactions: Goaltender Jeff Lerg has been loaned to the San Diego Gulls of the AHL. Lerg has a 2.04 goals against average with a .924 save percentage over ten starts while posting a 6-2-2 record for the Walleye. The Gulls are at Bakersfield tonight and follow that with a Saturday afternoon game in San Jose. In a separate transaction, goaltender Dustin Carlson has been signed by the Walleye. Carlson appeared in two games earlier this season for Evansville, while allowing five goals in 52 minutes. He appeared in 14 games for the Walleye during the 2011-12 season, with a record of 2-8-1, a 3.59GAA and .883SVP.
