Bridgeport Islanders News Release
HERSHEY, Penn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers lost to the Hershey Bears Saturday night by a final score of 5-3. Riley Wetmore, Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Mike Keenan all had goals for the Sound Tigers, who trailed by one before an empty-netter made it a two-goal game late in the third. Kenny Reiter was in net for the Sound Tigers and made 17 saves on the night.
Ryan Stoa picked up the opening goal for the Bears with 7:22 gone by after a turnover by the Sound Tigers in their own end. Brandon Segal collected the puck in the left-wing corner and found Stoa in the circle. He stickhandled and beat Reiter with a wrist shot to make it a 1-0 game.
The Sound Tigers tied the score later in the period when Wetmore, parked in front of the net, pounced on a rebound after a shot from Andrew Clark. He battled hard to win the puck, then slipped it past Bears goaltender Riley Gill for the Sound Tigers first goal of the contest.
It remained 1-1 through most of the second period, but both teams scored twice in rapid succession to make it a 3-3 game after two. Bouchard scored his fourth of the season after getting a cross-ice feed from Dallas Jackson and wiring a wrist shot top-shelf for the goal. 45 seconds later, however, Jeff Taffe found the back of the net to tie the score at two.
Segal scored his first of two power-play goals with less than two minutes to play in the second to give Hershey the lead. But a blast from Mike Keenan with less than 10 seconds left tied the score at three after 40 minutes. At that point, the Sound Tigers were outshooting the Bears, 21-15.
Segal's second goal of the night came with traffic in front at the 17:03 mark of the third. After a scramble in front, the puck was loose for Segal to send a shot past Reiter, who appeared to get tangled up with Taffe. That goal made it 4-3 before Cameron Schilling added an empty-net goal with less than 12 seconds left on the clock.
The Sound Tigers return home to host the Hartford Wolf Pack Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
