Devils Win Again, Down Phantoms
January 18, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release
GLENS FALLS, NY -- It only took the Albany Devils 4:13 longer to chase the opposing goalie out of the net for the second consecutive night in a 4-1 victory against the Adirondack Phantoms Saturday at Glens Falls Civic Center. Dan Kelly recorded his fourth multi-point game of the season in his 200th career AHL game, tallying two assists as Albany improves to 23-11-3-2.
Rod Pelley and Kelly Zajac each scored for the second consecutive night. Artem Demkov extended his point streak to five games with a goal and Tim Sestito solidified the Devils win with his seventh of the season.
"As a team, we're starting to find our groove a bit," Zajac said. "I think every line is contributing and we're finding the back of the net. We're playing good hockey right now."
Pelley started off the scoring for Albany at 13:15 of the first period. Pelley's shot hit off Cal Heeter's skate and in for his eighth of the season. Kelly and Keith Kinkaid were credited with the assists - the Devils netminder picking up his first point of the season.
"We're definitely deep with four lines and being able to run four lines consistently reallly helps you on these three-in-threes," Kelly said. "We've got energy and hopefully we can carry it into tomorrow too."
Ben Holmstrom netted the equilizer with 4:13 remaining in the period after finding his own rebound on the Phantoms power play. Kinkaid made three consecutive saves on shots from Holmstrom and Kris Newbury on the penalty kill, but the Phantoms converted on their fourth attempt making the score 1-1.
The Devils answered back 1:05 after Holmstrom's tally. Zajac found Mattias Tedenby's rebound and netted the go-ahead goal at 3:08 of the first period. Zajac picked up his fourth point (3g-1a) in as many games. Tedenby and Brandon Burlon were credited with the assists on Zajac's sixth of the season.
Demkov went top shelf for the Devils third goal at 9:32 of the second period. Kelly picked up his second helper of the game with the lone assist.
Sestito followed suit 40 seconds later making the score 4-1, forcing Yann Danis into the game to replace Heeter. Sestito's seventh of the season was assisted by Chris McKelvie -- his third assist in two games -- and Harri Pesonen.
"I said before that I had confidence in any of our lines playing any of their lines," Kowalsky said. "I think our depth right now is as good as anybody and when you do that, you can play at the pace you want to. I thought over the course of the game, we really wore them down."
Kinkaid, in his fourth consecutive start, turned aside 21 of 22 shots faced for his 16th win of the season.
Next up, the Devils travel to Hershey and will look for another two points in a 5 pm matchup. Fans can follow the action online or on mobile devices at ahllive.com. Additionally, the game will be carried on 104.5 "The Team" ESPN Radio.
