Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ONTARIO - After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, Hamilton Bulldogs forward Maxime Macenauer scored shorthanded early in the second period to cut the Utica Comets' lead in half, but that was as close as Hamilton would get on Saturday evening as the 'Dogs (19-16-0-4) lost 3-1 to the Comets (12-20-2-3) at Copps Coliseum.

Utica forward Benn Ferriero opened the scoring at 11:21 of the first period, assisted by forward Pascal Pelletier and defenceman Peter Andersson.

The Comets lead was extended to 2-0 just over two minutes later on the power play when forward Alexandre Grenier tipped a point shot from defenceman Henrik Tommernes past Bulldogs goaltender Dustin Tokarski. Pelletier drew a second assist on the goal.

Just 2:07 into the second period and the 'Dogs shorthanded, Hamilton forward Maxime Macenauer broke into the Utica zone and ripped a sharp-angle wrist shot through the legs of Utica goaltender Joe Cannata to make it a 2-1 game. Macenauer's fourth goal of the season was unassisted.

The 'Dogs fired 11 shots Cannata's way in the third period to try to tie things up, but Cannata stopped them all to preserve the victory for the Comets.

Ferriero added his second goal of the night into an empty Bulldogs net to cap the game off at 3-1. Pelletier and forward Brandon DeFazio added assists.

Tokarski made 31 saves on 33 shots in the Bulldogs net in the loss. Cannata made 32 saves on 33 shots for the Comets in the win.

The Bulldogs went 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Comets went 1-for-6.
