P-Bruins Fall to Falcons 5-3

Springfield, MA - The Providence Bruins fell to the Springfield Falcons 5-3 Saturday evening. Seth Griffith, David Warsofsky and Craig Cunningham each had a goal, while Niklas Svedberg made 40 saves.

The game got off to a fast start and the Falcons quickly gained control of the period. Springfield capitalized at the 5:28 mark of the opening frame when Andrew Joudrey beat Svedberg right in front of the net for his seventh goal of the season with Tim Erixon and Cody Goloubef getting the assists. Just past the midway point of the period, the P-Bruins had a power play opportunity and took advantage of it scoring at the 11:06 mark to even the game at one. Carter Camper sent a pass across the ice to the left faceoff circle to Griffith who beat Jeremy Smith gloveside for his ninth goal of the season. Joe Morrow had the second assist as the game went into the first intermission tied at one.

Springfield picked up where they left off as the second period began, but Providence soon took over. The P-Bruins took their first lead of the game with a power play goal at the 12:49 mark, when Warsofsky's shot from the blue line hit the back of the net for his third goal of the season. Nick Johnson and Justin Florek recorded the assists. The P-Bruins did not slow down and at the 16:50 mark Cunningham netted his 15 th goal of the season to make it 3-1 when the puck was turned over at the blue line and he scored five hole from the right faceoff circle. It was an unassisted goal as Providence took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.

The P-Bruins quickly gave one back 36 seconds into the third period when Spencer Machacek tallied his eighth goal of the season, with Darryl Boyce and Jean-Francois Jacques picking up the assists. The Falcons tied the game at three with a man advantage goal at the 12:45 mark from Ryan Craig, his seventh goal of the season. Jonathan Marchessault and Joudrey grabbed the assists. Thirty seconds later the Falcons scored again to take a 4-3 lead. Sean Collins netted his sixth goal of the season, with Erixon getting the lone assist. Despite the P-Bruins being on the man advantage for the last minute of play, Springfield scored an empty net, shorthanded goal at the 19:25 mark. Joudrey tallied his eighth goal of the season, while Cody Bass and Goloubef had the assists. The Falcons held on for the 5-3 victory.

Svedberg stopped 40 of 44 shots for the P-Bruins, while Smith made 22 saves for the Falcons. The P-Bruins went 2-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
