Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
WUERFEL PARK Brandon Jacobs blasted a pair of no doubt home runs to highlight a 12-6 Traverse City Beach Bums win over the Windy City Thunderbolts at Wuerfel Park on Saturday. It was a night that saw the Beach Bums light up the scoreboard for the second straight game.
Greg Harisis added three hits, three runs scored and two RBI. Alex Tomasovich and Jake Rhodes each drove in two runs.
The support was more than enough for starter Ian MacDougall who tossed 5.2 effective innings. Bret Dahlson and Chuck Ghysels closed the game out of the bullpen.
The teams traded single runs early before the Beach Bums raced ahead in the bottom of the second. Jacobs crushed a one-out solo homer to leftfield off Windy City starter Zak Wasserman giving the Beach Bums the 2-1 edge. Later in the inning, Harisis delivered a two-out RBI single making it 3-1.
MacDougall followed with consecutive 1-2-3 innings on the mound and the Beach Bums had full control.
Jacobs added his second homer, another drive to left, to lead off the fourth and the score was 4-1.
In the fifth, the Beach Bums chased Wasserman while blowing the game open. Wasserman allowed a walk and single to begin the inning and was lifted for former Traverse City pitcher Cameron Giannini. Yazy Arbelo and Sam Bumpers would get RBI singles and Jake Rhodes drove in two with a hit and the Beach Bums had jumped ahead 9-2.
Windy City mounted a rally in the sixth scoring three runs. Then in top of the eighth picked up another to nudge closer at 9-6.
However, in the bottom of the eighth the Beach Bums iced the game off reliever Joel Lima. Harisis came through with a RBI single and Tomasovich drove in two more with a single to up the final score to 12-6.
Tomasovich extended a personal hit streak to five with two hits. Rhodes collected his second two-hit game of the season.
