Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Brandon Jacobs hit two home runs to lead the Traverse City Beach Bums (4-4) over the ThunderBolts (3-5) 12-6 at Wuerfel Park Saturday night.
The Beach Bums scored in the first inning for the second straight night, when Greg Harisis doubled and was brought home on a Jose Vargas sacrifice fly.
The ThunderBolts tied the game up quickly when Jonathan Garcia doubled in the second inning. Jacob Tanis singled him home.
The tie did not last long, though, as Traverse City was able to put up three more runs in the second inning. Jacobs hit his first home run to make it 2-1. Later in the inning, Harisis came up with the bases loaded and drove in two runs on a single. Jacobs's second home run of the day, leading off the fourth inning, made it 5-1.
Tanis answered with his first long ball of the year in the top of the fifth to bring the Bolts back to within 5-2, but Traverse City distanced themselves with a four-run fifth.
The Beach Bums' inning featured two walks and four singles. They got RBI hits from Yazy Arbelo, Jake Rhodes and Sam Bumpers as their lead climbed to 9-2.
The ThunderBolts still had a rally in them, though it would prove to not be enough. In the sixth inning, they scored three runs without hitting the ball out of the infield. Tyler Clark and Zach Esquerra walked and Garcia reached on an infield hit to load the bases. Max White's infield single brought home Clark and Tanis reached on an infield hit, scoring both Esquerra and Garcia.
Mike Torres singled in the eighth and later scored on an error to cut the lead to 9-6, but that was as close as the Bolts would get.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Beach Bums got RBI singles from Harisis and Alex Tomasovich to put the game away at 12-6.
Ian MacDougall (2-0) allowed five runs in 5.2 innings, but picked up the win. Zak Wasserman (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven runs in four innings.
The ThunderBolts and Beach Bums wrap up their series at Wuerfel Park Sunday evening. Danny Jimenez (0-0, 1.50) will make his second start for Windy City against Traverse City's Kramer Champlin (0-1, 3.60). First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 and the broadcast can be heard at wcthunderbolts.com.
