EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (6-2) utilized an eight-inning go-ahead double from infielder Josh Allen and closer Edgar Lopez left the bases loaded in the ninth for the 4-3 win over the Florence Freedom (5-3) on Saturday night. The victory is the fifth straight for the Otters who are in first place in the Frontier League East Division.

Florence went up in the first inning with two singles, a double steal and a throwing error from Evansville catcher J.D. Dorgan. Evansville then tied the game on a Dorgan sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second and went ahead on a two-run single from infielder Cory Urquhart.

Ahead 3-1, Otters starter Trevor Walch worked around a jam leaving two men on in the fifth and reliever Connor Little stranded another runner aboard in the sixth. Little also induced an inning ending double play on a hitter's interference call in the seventh.

Trailing by two, Florence tied the game in the eighth. A pinch hit single from Ryan Solberg brought the Freedom within one and Travis Weaver tied the game with a hit and run single to left field.

Tied at three, Evansville outfielder Kurt Wertz Jr. hit a two out single and advanced to third on a two-base error from center fielder Jake Luce. Wertz Jr. then scored the go-ahead run when infielder Josh Allen looped a double to right-center.

Up 4-3, the Otters turned to closer Edgar Lopez in the ninth. Florence loaded the bases with one out, but Lopez induced an inning-ending, and game-concluding double play to claim the one run win for Evansville.

Walch didn't factor into the decision, going 5.1 innings allowing one run on six hits. The win goes to pitcher Evan Mott (1-0) who tossed 0.1 innings in relief. The save for Lopez was his fourth in as many chances this season.

Allen finished 3-for-3 with a run scored and the game-winning RBI. Wertz Jr. ended the night 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Urquhart doubled his RBI total this season to four with another two on Saturday night. Outfielder Ronnie Richardson also tallied two hits.

The Otters and Freedom will meet in the series finale on Sunday, May 24 at historic Bosse Field. Evansville is looking for their second straight sweep and sixth consecutive win. It is Toyota Manufacturing Activities Association Night at the ballpark. The Otters will have right-hander Tyler Vail (0-0, 9.00 ERA) on the bump against Freedom righty Coleman Stephens (2-0, 0.60 ERA). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. CDT.
