SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-- The Lake Erie Crusher offense exploded on Saturday evening, scoring 12 times on 16 hits, as they defeated the defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, 12-8.

The win for the Crushers (4-4) gives them their first series victory of the season, while the loss for the Boomers (5-4), marked the second time this season that they've lost games consecutively.

Lake Erie posted crooked numbers in three consecutive innings, but set the tone with a six-run third inning to take an early lead, and never looked back, in a game where the two clubs combined to score 20 runs on 30 hits.

There were runners on first and second with one out, when Emmanuel Quiles delivered his first of three hits on the night, a run scoring double down the line in right to score Justin Cureton. Quiles's double began a string of five straight hits, as Jose Barraza followed with a two-run triple to center, and scored moments later on Anderson Hidalgo's RBI single to center. The bases were loaded with one out, when Frank Desico brought Hidalgo home on a sac fly to right, and Aaron Lindgren brought the final run of the inning on a RBI single through the right side. Altogether, they scored six times on six hits and sent 11 batters to the plate in the third.

The Boomers would get one of those back in the home half of the third as Mike Shulze tripled, and scored on a passed ball, but the Crushers responded with three more in the top of the fourth to take their largest lead of the game. Lake Erie had two on, with one out, when Hidalgo blasted his first homer of the season, a three-run shot off the scoreboard in left to give the Crushers a 9-1 lead.

Schaumburg put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run double from Mike Valadez and a RBI single from Stephen Rogers, before the Crushers got two more, on a two-out double from Quiles to score Juan Sanchez and Desico in the top of the fifth.

Jordan Dean doubled to start the fifth inning for the Boomers and eventually scored on a wild pitch, before they scored three times in the sixth to pull within three (11-8). Dean reached on Hidalgo's error at third which allowed Valadez to score, Alexi Colon followed with a RBI double to right and an errant throw from Barraza at first brought Dean home.

The Crushers added one last insurance run in the top of the eighth. The bases were loaded with one out when Nick Zaharion's sac fly to left scored Quiles.

Mike Devine (1-1) tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in relief and allowed just a trio of hits while fanning one to score the victory for the Crushers. Anthony Gomez (0-2) took the loss after allowing 11 runs, seven earned on 13 hits over five innings.

Eight out of the starting nine hit safely for the Crushers, and six Crushers hit safely multiple times. Barraza, Ty Nelson, Zaharion, and Desico all turned in two-hit performances. Quiles and Hidalgo both went 3-for-5, while Quiles scored twice and drove in three, while Hidalgo scored two times and drove in four runs.

The Crushers will finish their three-game series with the Schaumburg Boomers at Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg, Ill., on Sunday night. Right-hander Hunter Adkins (0-0, 0.00) will start for the Crushers, while the Boomers will throw right-hander Brett Mabry (0-0, 3.60). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
