Traverse City Beach Bums News Release


O'FALLON, MO - The Traverse City Beach Bums banged out a season-high 13 hits as the Beach Bums won their first game since 2010 at T. R. Hughes Ballpark, downing the River City Rascals 8-2.

After River City took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a wild pitch, the Beach Bums broke out the bats in the fourth. Kyle Colligan led off the inning with a single followed two batters later by a walk to Jose Vargas. Jeff Flagg stepped in and drove a fastball over the right-centerfield fence for his league-leading sixth homer of the season and a 3-1 TC lead.

Traverse City would add to the lead in the next inning as the Beach Bums got things started off with four consecutive singles off the bats of Brian Heere, Ryan Still, Colligan and Chase Burch, scoring two runs in the prcoess and end the night of Rascals' starter, Preston Vancil. With two on and one out, Flagg came up again and delivered another RBI hit to score Colligan and push the lead to 6-1.

The Rascals scored a run in the sixth to pull to within four, but Traverse City would pa dthe lead and salt the game away in the ninth with a pair of runs on an RBI double by Burch and an RBI single from Flagg.

Brooks Belter (1-0) got the win with five innings of work. Preston Vancil (1-1) took the loss for River City. Offensively, The Beach Bums saw five players record multi-hit games including Heere, Colligan, Burch, Flagg and Chris Kay.

The Beach Bums now travel across the Mississippi River to take on the Gateway Grizzlies in a weekend series. Jacob Clem (1-0, 0.00) gets the start for Traverse City against Alex Kaminsky (2-0, 4.50) for Gateway. Coverage on Sunny Country 101.9 begins at 7:45 p.m. outside of an 8:05 scheduled first pitch.
