Marion, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners topped the Florence Freedom 4-2. Dave Harden earned his second win of the season by pitching extremely well through six innings. He gave up two runs, walked two and struck out four.

Chad Maddox hit his second triple of the season to bring in a run in the bottom of the first to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. With that RBI, Maddox leads the Frontier League with 17 RBI. The Miners came right back in the bottom of the second with a single by Ken Gregory with one out to bring in Will Block.

The Miners and Freedom were tied at two until the bottom of the sixth inning when Matt Fields hit a RBI single to give the Miners a 3-2 lead. Darrin Tew and Albert Ayala each threw an inning after Dave Harden threw six innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Matt Fields hit a solo home run with two outs to give the Miners a 4-2 lead heading into the top of the ninth.

Max Peterson retired the side, striking out the final two batters. The Miners won the game 4-2.

Getting the start for the Miners tomorrow will be Daniel Calhoun who is 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA. He'll be opposed by Daniel DiSimone who is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA. First pitch is scheduled at 7:05.
