Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

WASHINGTON, PA - The Traverse City Beach Bums took advantage of some shoddy Washington Wild Things defense and wildness on the mound to down the Wild Things 9-0 on Wednesday night.

Things got started for the Beach Bums immediately in the first inning as Ryan Still led off the game reaching on an error. Taylor Wrenn was hit by a pitch and two batters later Chase Burch walked to load the bases. Carlo Testa walked to force in Still for a 1-0 TC lead. Zach Kometani stood in next and laced a double down the leftfield line, clearing the bases for a 4-run Beach Bums first.

The game stayed 4-0 into the seventh when with two outs, Burch walked and Testa homered to make it 6-0. Traverse City tacked on three, eighth inning runs to cement the final score.

The runs were more than enough for Scott Dunn (6-0) who tossed 6.1 scoreless innings, striking out five. The combination of Matt Miller and Jason Mattila pitched 2.2 scoreless, hitless innings to preserve the shutout.

The series finale comes up on Thursday with Mike Devine (0-1, 4.95) on the mound for the Beach Bums against Shawn Smith (3-1, 2.35) for Washington. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm with the Budweiser Pregame Show on Sunny Country 101.9 FM beginning at 6:45 pm. Notes: Taylor Wrenn was hit by a pitch in the first and replaced in the second inning. According to the MLB rulebook: "A consecutive-game hitting streak shall not be terminated if all the player's plate appearances (one or more) results in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or a sacrifice bunt." Thus hit hitting streak remains intact at 21 games.
