AVON, Ohio -- Lake Erie Crushers catcher Emmanuel Quiles had three hits at All Pro Freight Stadium on Wednesday night, including a game tying two out RBI single in the eighth, and the game winning RBI base hit in the tenth as the Crushers beat the Normal Cornbelters, 4-3.

The victory for the Crushers (13-16) was their third in a row, and their second in three extra inning games this season, while the loss for the Cornbelters (17-12) was their fourth in their last five games.

For the second night in a row, the Cornbelters built an early lead that they were not able to hold. Patrick McKenna snapped a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning, when he belted his third homerun of the series. The two-run shot was his ninth of the season, putting him at the top of the Frontier League leaderboard in that category.

Normal used the long ball again, adding to their advantage in the top of the sixth inning, when T.J. Gavlik smashed a solo homer, his fourth of the season to give the Cornbelters a 3-0 advantage.

Lake Erie began their comeback by scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Russ Moldenhauer began the inning with a double, which was Lake Erie's only extra base hit of the night, and he scored moments later on Daniel Bowman's single. Bowman made his way around the bases as well, and eventually scored when Max Casper walked with the bases loaded.

Bowman reached on a fielder's choice in the eighth inning, and stole second base with two outs, before scoring the game tying run on Quiles's second single of the night.

Anderson Hidalgo led off the 10th inning with a single through the left side of the infield, and Kevin Berard replaced him on the bases. Andrew Davis was then walked, and Moldenhauer laid a sacrifice bunt down to push Berard and Davis to third and second respectively. Normal elected to walk Bowman to load the bases for Quiles, who delivered again with a single to center, which scored Berard to end the game.

Mickey Jannis (1-0) scored the victory for the Crushers after tossing a scoreless 10th inning. Matt Smith started the game and allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings in a strong start. The combination of Doug Shields, Brad Duffy and Jannis combined to toss four hitless innings of relief. Mitch Mormann (2-2) suffered the loss after allowing a run on a hit over 2.1 innings of work.

Quiles's three hit performance paced the Crushers offensively, and he has recorded 10 hits over his last six games with four runs batted in. Hidalgo was the only other Crusher to hit safely more than once, going 2-for-5 on the night. Davis saw his 19 game hitting streak come to an end in an 0-for-4 performance at the plate.

The Crushers will finish their three game series against the Normal Cornbelters at All Pro Freight Stadium on Thursday night. The Crushers will start left hander Matt Rein (2-3, 2.94) and the Cornbelters will start righty Luis Noel (2-1, 4.08). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
