Wild Things Fall 9-0

A four-run first inning set the tone for Wednesday's game as the Traverse City Beach Bums defeated the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, 9-0 at CONSOL Energy Park.

The Wild Things had chances to add runs, but tremendous defense by Traverse City prevented Washington from doing any damage.

In the bottom of the fourth, Washington had runners on first and third with one out with newly acquire left fielder Scott Kalamar at the plate. Kalamar ripped a ball right at the Beach Bums second baseman Ryan Still for a 4-6-3 double play.

An inning later in the bottom of the fifth, Wild Things had runners on second and third and one out. Shortstop Shain Stoner walloped a ball, but like Kalamar, hit it right at a member of the Traverse City squad, this time it was at shortstop Ryan Gusrang. He doubled off right fielder Gus Benusa at second base as he had no chance to return to the bag after his secondary lead.

Traverse City's Carlo Testa hit his first homerun of the year in the top of the seventh when he took Will Scott deep for a two-run homer, making it 6-0.

The Beach Bums added three more runs in the in the top of the eighth where the score would end at 9-0.

Scott Dunn (6-0), got the win in six 1/3 innings of work. He allowed seven hits, striking out five and walking one.

First baseman Stewart Ijames continued to take the ball to the woodshed as he was three-for-four.

The Wild Things and Beach Bums close this series on Thursday at CONSOL Energy Park.
