Baysox Take Series Opener

The SeaWolves could not come up with the big hit with runners in scoring position as they dropped the series opener to the Bowie Baysox, 4-2, on Tuesday night at Prince George's Stadium.

Bowie broke a scoreless tie in the fourth against Erie starter Tommy Collier. With one out, Mike Yastrzemski and Matt Weiters each singled putting two on for Brandon Snyder. Snyder singled home Yastrzemski for a 1-0 lead. Bowie would go on to load the bases but Collier got out of it with no further damage.

Collier would go on to toss six innings, allowing a run on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts in six innings of work in his Erie debut. He took a no-decision.

Erie tied the game in the sixth against reliever Marcel Prado. Dean Green doubled with one out and scored on a two-out Curt Powell knock.

The 'Wolves then took the lead in the top of the seventh. Harold Castro led off with a knock and was sacrificed over to second. With two outs, Connor Harrell singled home Castro making it 2-1.

The lead however, was short lived, as the Baysox came right back in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game at 2-2. Michel Burgess tripled off of reliever Whit Mayberry and scored on a two-out Ozzie Martinez knock.

Bowie would then take the lead in the eighth off of Mayberry. Weiters singled with one out and Snyder blasted a two-run, go-ahead home run for a 4-2 lead.

In the ninth, Castro led off with a single and Wynton Bernard reached on an error putting the tying run on base. Jason Krizan sacrificed the runners into scoring position. Reliever Mychal Givens then struck out Harrell and induced a fly ball to left off the bat of Green, ending the game. In the process, the 'Wolves finished 2-for-17 with runners in scoring position. Givens earned his eighth save.

Mayberry (2-3) took the loss allowing three runs on four hits in two innings of relief.
