
Rain Ends Loss for RubberDucks

Luis Severino struck out nine batters through five innings and the offense knocked 16 hits to beat the RubberDucks 9-3 Tuesday night.
Turning Point
With the game knotted up at two runs apiece following two innings Trenton scored one run in the top of the third to give them the lead before blowing the game open late in the game. Ali Castillo hit a two-out single to center field. While Jose Rosario was at bat, Castillo stole second and scored on Rosario's double to the left field corner to take a 3-2 lead.
Mound Presence
Severino (2-2) gave up two runs in the second inning in his five innings of work but after the third inning he ended his night striking out six of the last eight batters he faced. Ryan Merritt (3-4) who started for Akron threw five innings giving up three runs, two earned, on seven hits and two strike outs. Joe Colon pitched 1.2 innings of relief and gave up six runs, four earned, letting the Thunder pull away with the game.
Duck Tales
The Ducks got to Severino in the second inning scoring two runs on two hits, one walk and a hit by pitch. Destin Hood walked to open the inning then Jordan Smith cracked a double to center field and Hood advanced to third. Two batters later Bryson Myles hit a sac fly scoring Hood. During the next at-bat Jeremy Lucas hit a single to center field allowing Smith to score from second. The Trenton pitching settled down after the inning allowing just one run and three hits
Notes
Yandy Diaz doubled in the sixth inning, he has hit safely in 18 of his last 19 games. Tony Wolters threw out 1-of-2 runners attempting to steal. Bryson Myles hit a double in the ninth inning, that hit extended his hitting streak to six games. The game was delayed 33 minutes prior to the start of the bottom of the second inning. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, the game went into a rain delay, one hour later the game was officially called.
Time of game was 4:20 ...Attendance: 1,922.

The RubberDucks and Thunder will play a doubleheader Wednesday evening starting at 5:05. RHP Brady Neil and RHP Luis Niebla will take the mound for game one and two for Trenton, while RHP Will Roberts will start game one and the second starter has yet to be announced for Akron.
