Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Portland Sea Dogs rode two big innings to their 8-5 victory over the Binghamton Mets Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Portland scored all of their runs in two innings, managing just two hits in the other seven frames.
Binghamton brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, before hitting into their fourth double play of the game. The B-Mets have now lost three in a row for the second time this season, despite outhitting Portland 15 to 12.
For the 11th time in their last 13 home games, the B-Mets allowed the visiting team to score first. After retiring the first seven batters he faced, Ynoa allowed back-to-back home runs. First it was Jonathan Roof, hitting his first home run in 56 games, before Blake Tekotte hit his second of the year. The third batter of the inning, Marco Hernandez, would double and score on a Jantzen Witte single to center field.
Binghamton had plenty of opportunities to score against the Portland starter, Joe Gunkel. Binghamton had two hits in the first, but hit into a double play. They then stranded a man at third base in the second inning. Binghamton loaded up the bases in the third, before Jayce Boyd bounced into a 1-2-3 inning-ending double play. Binghamton also left a man on in the fifth.
The B-Mets were able to crack the scoreboard in the sixth, when Josh Rodriguez began the inning with a no-doubt home run to left field. It was his ninth homer of the year.
Binghamton would get two more baserunners in the inning, before grounding into their third double play of the night. Aderlin Rodriguez salvaged the inning by doubling to left-center field, driving in a run. It was his second double of the game and Binghamton trailed 8-3 after seven innings.
Binghamton drew even closer when Aderlin Rodriguez launched a two-run homer to left field in the eighth, his first of the month.
Vic Black and Bobby Parnell combined to keep Portland off the board in the final two innings, keeping Binghamton within striking distance. Black worked around a one out single, while Parnell used a double-play to face the minimum in the ninth, after issuing a one out walk.
Binghamton brought the tying run to the plate with one out in the ninth inning against Pat Light. But Josh Rodriguez hit into the fourth double play of the game, ending Binghamton's third consecutive loss.
Gunkel (2-0) earned the win, allowing two runs and nine hits in five innings pitched. Ynoa (2-3) took his second consecutive loss, allowing five runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. It was the first time this season that he did not record a strike out.
The B-Mets (24-21) continue their series with the Portland Sea Dogs Wednesday, at 6:35 PM. Binghamton RHP Dillon Gee (-) gets the ball on rehab, against RHP William Cuevas (5-2, 3.24). The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
POSTGAME NOTES: The B-Mets have not lost four in a row yet this season...Binghamton has hit into 19 double plays in their last 11 games...Jayce Boyd extended his season-high hitting streak to 12 games.
