Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Fightin Phils (24-20) set a season-high with 16 hits as they beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (22-23) 10-1 in the series opener. Jesse Biddle (4-1) allowed just one run in five innings as he earned his fourth win of the season.
Reading took a 2-0 lead off Joel Pineiro in the top of the second inning aided by three errors committed in the inning by the Fisher Cats. Shane Opitz committed a throwing and fielding error on the same play that allowed Brian Pointer and Brodie Greene to score.
Art Charles hit a RBI single off Pineiro in the top of the third inning to extend the lead to 3-0. Shane Opitz hit a solo home run off Biddle in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Fightins lead to 3-1.
The Fightin Phils opened the game off Pineiro in the top of the sixth inning as Brodie Greene and Roman Quinn hit RBI singles while Gustavo Pierre added a fielder's choice and RBI to give them a 6-1 lead. Cameron Perkins hit a three-run home run off Jimmy Cordero in the top of the seventh inning for his fourth home run of the season and a 9-1 lead for the Fightins. Perkins added a RBI double off reliever Cory Burns in the top of the eighth inning to give Reading a 10-1 win.
Brock Stassi went 4 for 5 while Perkins had four runs batted in on the night. Every Fightin Phil had at least one hit besides Rene Garcia. Hoby Milner tossed three scoreless innings in relief while Colton Murray retired the side to finish out the game in his 2015 Fightin Phils debut.
The Fightin Phils will continue their series with the Fisher Cats on Wednesday night. First pitch is at 7:05 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:35 pm.
