Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release
RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, are pleased to announce that Flying Squirrels Charities, a non-profit, 501(c)(3), has partnered with M&T Bank to host a season-long baseball glove drive throughout the region. This glove drive encourages fans to "Give a Glove, Give a Start" in support of the continued growth of youth recreational opportunities in the city of Richmond, specifically the game of baseball. There are eight glove donation boxes located in the Central, VA area (listed below) and donations will be accepted through the duration of the Squirrels season.
Glove drive participants are encouraged to donate any new or gently used baseball gloves. Other baseball equipment will also be accepted and all donated items will be given to the Richmond Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities Department to distribute to area youth. "Baseball can play an important role in youth development and in strengthening communities," said Melvin Watkins, Administrative Vice President with M&T Bank. "We are committed to working with partners like the Flying Squirrels to support young people and families in a variety of ways. We welcome folks to donate gloves at any of our Central Virginia branches."
"We are always looking for ways to partner with community-minded business and organizations to give back to both the City of Richmond, and the game of baseball. This glove drive helps us achieve both of those objectives." said Flying Squirrels' Vice President & COO Todd "Parney" Parnell.
