Erie SeaWolves News Release

The Erie SeaWolves dropped the tightly contested series opener 6-5 against the Bowie Baysox on Tuesday at UPMC Park.

Bowie opened the scoring in the first. Connor Norby lifted a solo home run off of Sawyer Gipson-Long to put the Baysox ahead, 1-0.

Erie got on the board in the second. Brenan Hanifee issued a one-out walk to Dillon Dingler and Andrew Navigato ripped an RBI double to even the score, 1-1.

The SeaWolves took the lead in the fourth. Quincy Nieporte led off the frame with a single. Dingler walked to move Nieporte to second before Gage Workman connected on a three-run blast to put Erie on top, 4-1. It was Workman's 12th long ball of the season.

Hanifee did not factor in the decision. He tossed four innings, giving up four runs on three hits, walking three, and striking out four.

The Baysox responded in the fifth. Toby Welk began the inning with a double. Zach Watson reached on an error from Gage Workman to put runners at first and third. Darell Hernaiz went to first on an error from Trei Cruz, allowing Welk to score. Norby then launched his second homer of the game, this time a three-run blast to pull Bowie ahead, 5-4

The SeaWolves retaliated in the sixth. Adam Stauffer gave up a leadoff walk to Dingler. Bryant Packard laced an RBI double to left-center to tie the game, 5-5.

Gipson-Long received the no decision. He threw six innings, yielding five runs, three earned on five hits, walking one, and striking out six for his second straight quality start.

Cody Roberts greeted Gerson Moreno in the top of the ninth with a double. The right-hander uncorked back-to-back wild pitches to bring in Roberts and give the Baysox a 6-5 lead.

Nolan Hoffman (2-1) pitched two scoreless frames, giving up one hit, and striking out three for the win.

Moreno (2-2) was tagged with the loss. He allowed one run on one hit in an inning of work and struck out three batters.

Hector Perez picked up his second save with a scoreless ninth and yielded one hit while striking out one.
