Reading Battles Hard But Drops 7-3 to Hartford

The Reading Fightin Phils battled hard against the Hartford Yard Goats, but fell 7-3 on the road. Reading used the long ball to tie things up in the middle of the contest, but #1 Rockies prospect Zac Veen's solo shot ended up being the winning run for Hartford.

Hartford got on the board in the third with a two-run double by Kyle Datres and an RBI single off the bat of Grant Lavigne.

In the fourth, Aldrem Corredor smacked a two-run blast for his 13th of the season. Reading trailed 3-2.

Jhailyn Ortiz tied it up in the fifth with a solo shot to the last row of the second deck in Dunkin' Donuts Park.

In the bottom of the seventh, Hartford's Zac Veen launched a go-ahead homer to right center for a 4-3 lead.

The Yard Goats ran away with it the eighth. They plated three runs on two hits, three walks, two wild pitches and one R-Phils error. Hartford led 7-3.

Noah Skirrow threw 4.1 innings, letting up three runs on six hits. The righty struck out eight. He left with two runners on in the fifth.

Adam Leverett (L, 3-8) inherited those runners and stranded them there. He allowed a solo shot in his 2.2 innings pitched.

Andrew Shultz took the eighth and left with two on and two out. He let up three runs on two hits, three walks, and two wild pitches.

Andrew Baker made his Double-A debut inheriting two runners and two outs in the eighth. He induced a flyout to right to end the frame.
