
Baysox Pull Away in Eighth to Win Series

Bowie, MD - The Baysox created separation from the Flying Squirrels with a four-run eighth inning in a 6-1 win Thursday night at Prince George's Stadium. Baysox third baseman Trey Mancini collected three of the ten hits to take the series three game to one. Tyler Beede suffered the loss despite a quality outing over six innings for Richmond. The Squirrels return to The Diamond for a brief three game series against Altoona on Friday night with RHP Joan Gregorio on the mound.
Mancini gave the Baysox an early 2-0 lead with a home run to left field off Beede in the first inning. The Bowie slugger had three hits in the game and seven during the four game series. Beede needed 22 pitched in the first inning, but did not allow another run in the outing.
Richmond scored their lone run in the fourth inning as Devin Harris cut the deficit in half 2-1, with a solo blast over the left field wall. It was the 9th homer of the season for Harris and his third RBI hit of the series. Bowie starting pitcher Joe Gunkle managed to control the Squirrels over six innings to earn the win. Gunkle (7-2) allowed just the one run on four hits with six strikeouts. Reliever Ashur Tolliver entered in the seventh and yielded a base hit but picked up a double play to end the threat. Tolliver earned his sixth hold of the season by recording five outs. He was removed with two outs in the eighth inning for Closer Andre Triggs. Triggs finished the game to earn his 14th save of the season.
Tyler Beede was hit with the loss despite another quality outing. Beede tossed six innings and allowed a pair of runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Phil McCormick relieved Beede in the seventh and retired all three batters he faced. Derek Law worked the eighth inning and was able ot record just one out as the Baysox pulled away with four runs on six hits in the inning for a 6-1 advantage.
The Squirrels return home on Friday to begin a brief three game homestand against the Altoona Curve. RHP Joan Gregorio (1-2, 3.02) will start for the Squirrels against Curve LHP Steven Brault (6-3, 2.80). First pitch is set for 7:05 PM with the Flying Squirrels Pregame Warmup starting at 6:35 PM on Fox Sports 910 and FoxSportsRichmond.com.
