Chesapeake Baysox News Release

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Bowie Baysox unleashed a hat-trick of two-run home runs to defeat the Harrisburg Senators 7-1 Friday night at Metro Bank Park, in Harrisburg. The win puts the Baysox back above .500 at 31-30 and in keeps them tied with Akron for second place in the six-team Eastern League Western Division, nine games behind leaders Altoona.

Starting pitcher Zach Britton continued his dominance against the Senators by allowing one run off six hits through 6.0 innings, with six strikeouts and one walk. He has won all four of his starts against Harrisburg with two runs given up through 24.0 innings (0.75 ERA) and 20 strikeouts. Britton now leads the Baysox with six wins, tying him for fourth most in the Eastern League.

Center fielder Danny Figueroa opened the top of the first inning with a single to center field before second baseman Ryan Adams seized a 2-0 Baysox lead with a home run to left field. It was Adams's third home run of the year, all of which have come at Metro Bank Park.

Adams was at it again in the top of the third inning, leading off the side with a single to third base. With one out, first baseman Joel Guzman smashed Aaron Thompson's first pitch over the right field wall to put the Baysox up 4-0 with his 13th home run of the year. The home run, which drove in his team-best 39th run of the season, gives Guzman sole possession of second place on the Eastern League home run leader board.

The Baysox extended the lead to 5-0 in the top of the fourth inning, when shortstop Carlos Rojas hit a sacrifice fly to drive in left fielder Tyler Henson.

Senators right fielder Jesus Valdez got aboard on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the sixth inning and moved to second base on a wild pitch. From there, he scored on outfielder Marvin Lowrance's single to left field to shave a run off the Baysox lead.

Not content with the four-run lead, the Baysox tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning. Guzman sent a ground ball into left field for a single and came all the way around when designated hitter Robbie Widlansky launched his second bomb of the year, a home run to right field. Widlansky's homer put the Baysox up 7-1, where they would stay as lefty reliever Pedro Viola put in his second perfect inning of relief in as many appearances, with two strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Baysox will face the Senators again Saturday, at 7 p.m. and take them on once more on Sunday before returning to Bowie on Tuesday, June 15, for a six-game home stand against the Reading Phillies and the Senators.
