New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Erie, PA- Ronald Uviedo, B. J. LaMura and Tim Collins combined on a five-hit shutout as the Fisher Cats opened a series in Erie Friday night with a 4-0 win over the SeaWolves.
Uviedo (1-2), a 23-year old right-hander, allowed three hits in five innings of work, walking two and striking out four. It was the first win in the Blue Jays organization for Uviedo, who started the season with Double-A Altoona, and was traded by the Pirates on June 1 for Dana Eveland.
After dropping three games in Akron to start the road trip, the Fisher Cats hoped for a quick start in Erie and were successful. Darin Mastroianni (2-for-4, R, 2 SB) led off with a single and Eric Thames blasted a 1-1 pitch over the fence in right-center for a 2-0 lead. It was his 12th homer of the season.
Erie (26-34) had its best chance to score in the bottom of the sixth inning against LaMura. Ben Johnson reached on an error and moved to second on a wild pitch. Michael Bertram was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Josh Burrus singled to left but Thames threw Johnson out at the plate trying to score to keep the SeaWolves off the board. LaMura worked two scoreless innings in relief.
New Hampshire (37-25) added two unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning. Shawn Bowman singled and stole second and after an intentional walk of Manny Mayorson, David Cooper hit a fly to the warning track that Johnson dropped, allowing Bowman to score. Mayorson moved to third on the play and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brian Jeroloman to make it 4-0.
Tim Collins worked two perfect innings in relief for the Fisher Cats, striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn his second save.
Brooks Brown (3-4) took the loss for Erie. Brown worked seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five.
The Fisher Cats continue the series with Erie on Saturday night at 7:05pm at Jerry Uht Park against the SeaWolves. New Hampshire sends right-hander Bobby Bell (3-2, 5.89) to the mound to face Erie left-hander Jon Kibler (4-4, 4.97). Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.
The Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium to open a three-game series against the Akron Aeros, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, on Tuesday, June 15, at 7:05pm. Prior to the game, which is a Kraft® Singles Tuesday Night Tickets night, there will be a parade to honor participants in the Community College System of New Hampshire Fisher Cats Reading Challenge.
