TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Reading Philles will meet in the opener of a four-game series...The Flying Squirrels rallied from a 4-1 deficit last night against the Rock Cats; however, New Britain scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning and knocked off Richmond for the first time in nine meetings this season, 6-5, on Thursday night at The Diamond.

TONIGHT'S STARTER: Right-hander Mike MacDonald gets the start in game one of the series for the Flying Squirrels...Received a no-decision for a second straight start 6/5 at Trenton...Gave up two runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings...Struck out four batters and walked one...Allowed the leadoff man to reach in three of his six innings on the mound...Recorded five ground outs and five fly outs...Had allowed 13 runs, 10 earned, on 20 hits in eight-plus innings in his first three starts coming off of the Disabled List (11.25 ERA) including seven strike outs and five walks...Has allowed three runs on 12 hits in 11 2/3 innings in his last two outings (2.31 ERA) including eight strike outs and two walks...Left-handed batters are hitting .423 (30-for-71) against him...Richmond is 1-10 in his 11 outings...Four runs of scored in support of MacDonald were a season-high...Averaging 1.45 runs during his appearances...Is 0-3 with a 7.04 ERA in three starts against Reading this season...Has allowed 23 hits over 15 1/3 innings against the R-Phils this season.

ONE IS THE LONIEST NUMBER: The Flying Squirrels dropped to 9-10 in one-run games with last night's 6-5 loss to the Rock Cats...The club is now 22-20 in games decided by three runs or less.

TWO-OUT MAGIC: The Flying Squirrels went 2-for-5 with runners in scoring position and two outs in last night's loss to the Rock Cats...The club scored four of its five runs with two outs...Overall on the season, Richmond is batting just .169 (43-for-254) with runners in scoring position and two outs.

BUILT FORD TOUGH: Outfielder Darren Ford went 3-for-4 last night with two RBI and fell a double short of hitting for the cycle...The home run was his second in 14 at-bats and his third overall on the season...It was the fifth time this season he collected three hits or more in game which is tops on the club...28 of his 49 hits have come in his 11 multi-hit performances...Has collected just 21 hits total in the other 43 games in which he has played.

THOMAS THE TRAIN: Outfielder Thomas Neal has hits in six straight games including a season-high four hits in a 4-for-4 effort Tuesday night against New Britain...It is the fourth hit streak of five games or more for Neal, tops on the club...Since dropping down in the order 6/4 at Trenton, he is 10-for-23 (.435) over his last six contests with three doubles, four RBI and two runs scored...The 22-year-old leads the club with 17 multi-hit games, 14 doubles and is tied with Conor Gillaspie for the team lead with 18 extra base hits.

GETTING DEFENSIVE: The Flying Squirrels have gone five games without making an error...It is the longest errorless streak of the season for Richmond...The club is tied with Trenton for the best fielding percentage in the Eastern League (.984).

DOUBLETREE DOWNTOWN DOUBLE PLAYS: The Richmond Flying Squirrels have turned 75 double plays in 60 games including six on 5/7 in Harrisburg...The club leads the Eastern League in double plays turned and has not gone more than two games without turning a double play.

CFS STAT OF THE NIGHT: Left-hander Clayton Tanner went six innings last night marking the first time this season that the Flying Squirrels got three consecutive starts of six innings or more.
