Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - On Wednesday evening at Louisville Slugger Field, the Louisville Bats fell to 10-15 at home this season with an 8-3 loss. Shortstop Jose Peraza recorded his second four-hit game on the season, just the third for the Bats on the year, with his other such performance coming on April 20 in a 16-5 victory over Columbus.
The Bats fell behind in the first inning and were never able to gain the lead. Right-handed pitcher Robert Stephenson (3-3, 3.86) allowed two runs in the top of the first and then at least one more in each of the next three innings, while Louisville's 11 hits only mustered three runs of their own.
Toledo jumped out in front with a two-run first inning after getting a lead-off walk and single, with two errors committed. Center fielder Anthony Gose scored on the single while the second run scored later on an RBI single.
Louisville answered in the bottom of the first with an RBI double by right fielder Jesse Winker and again in the seventh inning with a pair of doubles, a single, and a sacrifice fly RBI resulting in Winker's second RBI.
The game was secured with the Toledo runs scored in the second, third and fourth innings, with insurance added in the eighth inning. A solo home run by left fielder Steven Moya in the third, a pair of hits and sacrifice bunts, and an error resulted in a two-run fourth. A two-run home run in the eighth rounded out the scoring.
Stephenson was handed the loss after four and one-third innings, allowing eight hits, six runs (five of them earned), four walks, and one home run while striking out four.
Left handed pitcher Daniel Norris (3-4, 5.45) came away victorious after throwing six and one-third innings, allowing 10 hits, three runs (all earned), one walk and striking out nine.
The Bats wrap up the four-game series against the Mud Hens tomorrow evening at 7:05 pm at Louisville Slugger Field. Right-handed pitcher Keyvius Sampson (2-1, 2.13) will be on the bump for Louisville against Toledo right-handed pitcher Matt Crouse (0-0, 4.50).
