Louisville Bats News Release
PAPILLION, NE - The Storm Chasers scored six combined runs in the sixth and seventh innings to lift the team to a 4-2 series-win against the visiting Louisville Bats in a chilly early-season contest on Sunday afternoon at Werner Park.
After Lucas Sims made a rehab start for a single, scoreless inning, Connor Overton took over on the bump. He tallied five innings of work, allowing five hits and two earned runs, while also striking out five.
Each team struggled to find an offensive rhythm early, as deft pitching and frigid temperatures held the game scoreless through the first three innings. The pitchers' duel continued through the sixth inning until the bats warmed up for both clubs, and hits started falling in the seventh.
The Storm Chasers threatened a big inning in the fourth after a lead-off double and RBI single notched the first run of the game, but Connor Overton was able to pitch around the threat, retiring the next three batters in order.
The Bats were able to even the score in the sixth, when Omaha reliever Andres Nunez delivered a wild pitch, allowing Ronnie Dawson to score from third. The tie game would not last long, as the Storm Chasers tally two more runs in the bottom half of the sixth thanks to a couple of hits and a defensive error leading to an unearned run.
The seventh inning brought insurance runs for Omaha, as a pair of walks and a pair of triples contributed to a four-run inning for the Storm Chasers.
Louisville did not go down without a fight and were able to muster three runs in the eighth inning thanks to a pair of doubles from Lorenzo Cedrola and Cristian Santana. All told, the Bats were able to notch eleven hits in the game, with four different Bats achieving multi-hit games (Cedrola, Santana, Cordoba, and Amburgey).
Louisville will open the next six-game homestand this Tuesday evening (4/19) with the Iowa Cubs, who will visit Louisville Slugger Field for the first time in franchise history. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. with both teams' starters currently TBD.
