SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Louisville Bats split a four-game series the hard way, winning the last two against the Syracuse Chiefs with a 3-2 win on Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Brandon Allen's three-run home run and a strong bullpen guided the Bats to their second straight win.

A single and a force out guided the Chiefs to the games first two runs in the second inning. With one swing of the bat, that lead vanished as Brandon Allen's third home run of the season gave the Bats a 3-2 lead.

In his first start in nearly three years, right hander Dayan Diaz threw two innings, gave up two runs on two hits, walked two and struck out two. He did not get a decision.

Behind Diaz was a strong bullpen that consisted of right hander Matt Magill (2-1, 6.97) who avenged his losing effort on Monday with two scoreless innings and earned the win. Right hander, Chad Rogers was masterful in his two innings of relief as he struck out four of the six batters he faced. Left hander Wandy Peralta pitched two scoreless innings of his own and right hander Jumbo Diaz ultimately closed out the Bats win, his eighth save in eight chances. Jumbo has yet to allow a run this season in 17 innings.

Syracuse's starter, right hander Paolo Espino (3-5, 3.49) took the loss after his six innings of work in which he gave up three runs on seven hits.

Tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m., the Bats will begin a three-game series with the Pawtucket Red Sox. Bats right hander Jon Moscot (1-2, 6.97) will go up against Paw Sox left hander Roenis Elias (3-3, 4.00).
