Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Cedar Rapids, Iowa - After riding out a rain delay in the middle of the eighth inning, the Quad Cities River Bandits earned their tenth series win of the season, as they topped the Cedar Rapids Kernels 4-1 on Friday night at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

While Tyler Beck stranded a pair of two-out Bandits' baserunners in the top of the first, Quad Cities starter, Christian Cosby needed just 21 pitches to work through the first two frames of a scoreless ballgame.

However, it was the Bandits who went down quietly in the third as Beck used just 10 pitches to retire his opposition before a leadoff single by Max Smith, a wild pitch that moved him to second, and a two-out RBI single by Alex Isola gave the Kernels a 1-0.

In the top of the fourth though, Q.C. got a one-out triple from Seuly Matias and, two batters later, would come around on Logan Porter's 10th home run of the season that cleared the confines over the left-field wall and put the Bandits up 2-1.

After Cosby worked a one-two-three bottom of the fourth, the Bandits again tagged Beck for a two-run shot when Maikel Garcia smacked his first High-A home run and plated Tucker Bradley for a 4-1 Quad Cities advantage.

Beck settled down in the sixth and stranded a leadoff error, but the River Bandits' bullpen silenced the Cedar Rapids lumber with Nathan Webb working a perfect frame in the sixth and then stranding Wander Javier's two-out triple in the seventh.

The top of the eighth saw Breckin Williams work his second of two perfect innings to keep the Kernels in the game.

However, just before Smith could step to the plate in the bottom half, a downpour forced the tarp on the field for a delay of just under an hour.

When play resumed, it was Will Klein who took the rubber for the Bandits and, despite allowing four pitch walks to Smith and DaShawn Keirsey Jr., got Isola to flyout and Matt Wallner on strikes to keep his team's lead intact before striking out the side and recording his third save of the year in the bottom of the ninth.

Cosby (3-2), who allowed just one run through five full innings, got the win having struck out more batters than runners allowed, while Beck (2-2) worked six innings, but took the loss and surrendered four runs on five hits and one walk.

The River Bandits will conclude their stay in Cedar Rapids tomorrow, as C.J. Eldred (0-0, 0.00) will get the start in the finale for his Quad Cities debut. Game one starter, Jon Olsen (1-4, 3.92) will get the ball for the Kernels with first pitch scheduled for 2:05 p.m. CDT at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
