(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains (44-39) fell behind early and could not claw their way back in a 5-2 loss to the Lansing Lugnuts (40-43) on Saturday night at Classic Park.

Lansing got on the board in the top of the first inning. Cobie Vance led off the game with a single to right center. He moved to second on a soft groundout to third base by Jordan Díaz. Another soft ground ball in the direction of third base went as an infield single for William Simoneit after a bobble by Victor Nova at third base. With runners on the corners Jared McDonald hit a high fly ball to right field that drove in Vance for the go-ahead Lansing run as they took a 1-0 lead.

With two outs Marcos Brito ripped a double to the right-center gap to drive in Madden Jr. With Vance up, Captains starter Hunter Gaddis balked, moving Brito to third. Then a passed ball by catcher Joe Donovan allowed Brito to score, putting Lansing ahead 3-0.

In the top of the seventh, Lansing produced two insurance runs. Brito walked with one out to flip the lineup to the top of the order. Vance was up and he blasted a two-run home run to left field to go up 5-3.
