New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Scoreless through nine innings, the New Orleans Baby Cakes took advantage of a throwing error in the bottom of the 10th to score the game's only run in a 1-0 win over the Round Rock Express on Thursday night.

With JT Riddle at second base to open the inning, Isaac Galloway laid down a flawless bunt along the third base line. Nick Noonan charged and threw wildly to first base, allowing Riddle to scamper home with the decisive run.

All three New Orleans victories in the series came in the final at-bat.

Baby Cakes starter Zac Gallen fired seven innings of four-hit ball and has yet to surrender a run in 20 innings across three home starts. Gallen worked out of first-inning jam, stranding a runner at third with one out, and induced an inning-ending double play in the fifth after giving up a walk and a single to open the frame.

Gallen struck out six and walked two, but did not factor into the decision as New Orleans was blanked by a trio of Express bullpen arms.

Scheduled starter Yohander Mendez was promoted to the Texas Rangers earlier in the day, causing Round Rock to turn to reliever Brandon Mann, who gave up one hit in 3 1/3 innings and has not allowed a run in 14 1/3 innings this season.

The 'Cakes threatened against Samir Vivas in the eighth, putting runners at the corners with two outs before Chad Wallach struck out.

Jumbo Diaz (2-2) earned his second win of the series by retiring the side in order with a pair of strikeouts in the top of the 10th. RJ Alvarez (0-1) was dealt the loss.

The Baby Cakes embark on an eight-game road trip beginning Friday in Omaha. First pitch for the opener of the four-game set against the Storm Chasers is set for 7:05 p.m.
