Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (13-14) collected an 8-3 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes (12-16) to avoid a series sweep on Thursday night at Cheney Stadium.
Catcher Mike Marjama led the Rainiers on offense, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, one home run, and two RBI while falling a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. First baseman Daniel Vogelbach (2x5) and center fielder Ian Miller (2x3, R, RBI) both collected multiple hits, while third baseman Gordon Beckham drove in three RBI on a three-run home run.
Tacoma starting pitcher Ariel Miranda (2-0) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and ultimately earned the win after 7.0 innings allowing just two runs. He struck out five and walked just one.
Beckham launched his three-run homer in the bottom of the third and the Rainiers never looked back. Second baseman Zach Vincej and Miller added to Tacoma's lead with back-to-back RBI singles in the fourth, Marjama tacked on his solo home run in the sixth, and shortstop Taylor Motter and Marjama both drove in runs in the seventh.
The Isotopes attempted to play their way back into the game a handful of times, but never came within fewer than three runs of the Rainiers.
The Rainiers now leave the friendly confines of Cheney Stadium for a 13-game, 12-day road trip that begins on Friday night against the Reno Aces. Tacoma right-hander Rob Whalen (3-1, 4.45) will kick off the four-game series and share the mound with Reno righty Jake Buchanan (0-2, 4.57).
