LAST GAME: The Erie SeaWolves tagged Greg Peavey for ten hits and defeated the B-Mets 5-3 last night at Jerry Uht Park. Peavey retired ten of the first eleven he faced, but ran into trouble in the fourth. The righty allowed two runs on three hits in the frame and surrendered four hits and two more runs in the fifth. The SeaWolves added an insurance run in the seventh. The B-Mets scored their first run in the third when Pedro Zapata came home on a wild pitch. STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Armando Rodriguez (2-0, 2.38) makes his 20th appearance of the year and his first start. Rodriguez spent the last four years in the Mets system as a starting pitcher. After an oblique injury forced him to miss the first two months of last season, the righty joined the starting rotation for the St. Lucie Mets (High-A). He went 4-4 with a a 3.96 ERA in 16 starts. He fanned 74 over 75.0 innings of work. This season, he has logged 41.2 innings in 19 relief outings. Rodriguez last appeared against the Akron Aeros on June 19, throwing 3.2 innings in the resumption of a suspended game.
LHP Jared Wesson (4-4, 6.97) takes the mound for his 14th start of the season and first against the B-Mets. The lefty suffered the loss in his last start against the Bowie Baysox on June 19. He allowed seven runs on eight hits over 4.1 innings. The southpaw struck out three and walked two. He has gone five straight starts without a victory. He has allowed eight hits or more and surrendered six runs or more in his last two starts. Wesson was signed by the Detroit Tigers as a non-drafted free agent in 2009. This is his first season at Double-A.
ALL GOOD THINGS MUST END: After starting the roadtrip with three straight losses, the B-Mets rattled off three wins in a row. Their loss last night prevented them from matching their longest winning streak of the season at four games, attained when they swept the Portland Sea Dogs in a four-game series in April.
CAMPBELL CONTINUES: B-Mets first baseman Eric Campbell reached base safely twice last night, going 2-for-4 with an RBI single. It was his fourth straight game with at least one RBI. He raised his league-leading on-base percentage to .441.
OUT-HIT AND A LOSS: The B-Mets were out-hit last night by the Erie SeaWolves by a 10-9 tally. It was the 26th time this season they have been out-hit and lost. Binghamton has not won a game they were out-hit in since they beat the Trenton Thunder 1-0 on May 16 while getting out-hit 7-5.
FLORES FLOWING: New B-Mets infielder Wilmer Flores supplied a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning last night. It was his third straight game with an RBI.
SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT: Wilmer Flores played his first game at second base with the B-Mets last night. The native of Venezuela logged 453 games at shortstop in his first four years in the Mets organization. In 64 games with the St. Lucie Mets (High-A), Flores played 61 games at third base and three at second base. He logged no time at shortstop.
SLIPPING ON SUNDAYS: The B--Mets won their first eight Sunday games of the season. They have lost their last three Sunday contest, most recently suffering a 15-6 defeat at the hands of the Altoona Curve.
REVENGE OF NIUMAN: Former B-Met Niuman Romero drove in two runs last night. Romero hit .243 in 32 games with the B-Mets last season.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets complete their four-game series against the Erie SeaWolves and wrap up their nine-game homestand tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. RHP Zack Wheeler takes the hill for Binghamton against RHP James Avery.
