New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - Chad Jenkins turned in his third straight quality start and Mark Sobolewski blasted his 12th home run to push the Fisher Cats to a 5-3 victory over the Harrisburg Senators (37-37) on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Fisher Cats (28-45) are guaranteed a winning homestand and at least a split of the four-game series with the Senators heading into the finale Monday night.
The Fisher Cats opened the scoring in the second inning, using a Harrisburg error to take a 1-0 lead. Sobolewski reached on the miscue, hustling to second base as the ball rolled through the legs of the third baseman Jose Lozada. Sobo took third on a groundout and then scored on a wild pitch by starter Danny Rosenbaum (L; 7-4).
After the Senators tied it in the top of the third, New Hampshire grabbed the lead for good in the home half of the inning. Consecutive singles led to John Tolisano driving home the first run when his infield pop-up was lost in the sun. Rosenbaum then committed a balk, leading to a run-scoring single from rehabbing Toronto outfielder Ben Francisco for a 3-1 lead.
The Fisher Cats added another run in the fourth on a failed double play attempt by the Senators. Harrisburg pulled within two runs in the fifth, but Sobolewski's blast to lead off the sixth pushed the lead back to three runs at 5-2.
Jenkins (W; 4-6) tossed six innings of two-run ball before exiting the game. He gave up just five hits while striking out four. In his last three games Jenkins is 2-0 and has allowed just three earned runs in 19.0 innings (1.59 ERA). He turned the ball over to Matt Wright (S; 2) who worked the final three innings, giving up a solo home run, for his second save of the season.
Sobolewski scored two of the Fisher Cats five runs in the game. Francisco picked up two hits, and immediately was recalled by the Blue Jays after the game. Brian Bocock, Tolisano, and Francisco all drove in runs in the win.
The teams now wrap up the series on Monday night at 7:05 PM. Monday's game is Easter Seals Night with 50% of $10 and $12 tickets supporting Easter Seals New Hampshire Children's Services. It's also a U.S. Cellular Academic All-Stars Night, Halfway to Christmas, and a USA Subs Baseball Bingo game. To purchase tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
The series finale will pit RHP Fernando Hernandez (1-4, 3.65) against Harrisburg RHP Kevin Pucetas (5-2, 1.93). Radio coverage begins at 6:45 PM with Tom Gauthier and Dick Lutsk on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
