(Trenton, NJ) - Ryan Dent's two-run home run just inside the foul pole in left field provided the difference in the eighth inning as the Portland Sea Dogs defeated the Trenton Thunder, 6-5, in a back-and-forth affair Sunday afternoon at Waterfront Park. Portland erased a 5-4 deficit when Dent lifted his second long ball of the season against reliever Michael Dubee (2-3).

Derrik Gibson led off the eighth with a triple, setting the stage for Dent's go-ahead blast, only his second long ball of the season. Caleb Clay (2-2) tossed two scoreless innings to earn the victory while Brock Huntzinger pitched around a leadoff single in the ninth to earn his second save of the season.

Portland, which trailed 3-0 after one inning, scored four consecutive runs against Mikey O'Brien and Francisco Rondon to take a 4-3 lead. But the Thunder rallied for a pair of runs against Portland starter Chris Hernandez in the seventh to recapture the lead. Jeff Farnham tied the game with an RBI double and Abraham Almonte put the Thunder in front on a fielder's choice groundout.

Melky Mesa's second home run in as many games, a two-run shot in the first inning against Hernandez, highlighted Trenton's three-run first. O'Brien then allowed three runs in five innings and left with the score tied.

The Thunder and Sea Dogs conclude the four-game series Monday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm. Trenton left-hander Vidal Nuno (2-1, 1.08) is slated to start against lefty Drake Britton (1-1, 4.19).
