Last time out...
The Freedom won a crucial game on Thursday as they knocked off the Rockford Aviators by a final score of 5-3. After falling behind 2-0, Freedom starter Coleman Stephens retired 10 in a row and Florence tallied three runs in the fourth. Austin Newell got things started against Kyle Brueggemann (6-6) with a single. Sam Eberle followed with a walk and Frazier Hall singled home Newell for Florence's first run of the game. A Josh Henderson sacrifice fly tied the game at two and Travis Weaver's RBI grounder made it 3-2 in favor of Florence. Rockford tallied the game in the top of the sixth. But in the bottom of the sixth, the Freedom took the lead for good. Hall walked to start the inning. Josh Henderson hit into a fielder's choice and Isaac Wenrich doubled to put runners at second and third. Rockford called upon Eric Cendejas, who surrendered a two-RBI single to Weaver as Florence pulled ahead 5-3. The Freedom's bullpen took care of the rest.
For Starters...
Jeremy Gooding makes his 14th start of the year tonight for the Freedom. He is coming off a dominating performance against the Schaumburg Boomers on August 23 as Gooding tossed six innings of shutout ball, allowing only two hits while striking out six without issuing a walk in a 5-0 win for the Freedom. Over the last 15.2 innings Gooding has pitched at home he has not allowed an earned run. This is his first home start since August 5 when he went six innings of shutout ball against Normal. The 24 year old went to school at Madonna University in Michigan. He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Fort Worth Cats of the United League. He also pitched with Amarillo of the American Association in 2014 and compiled a record of 2-2 with a 1.62 ERA in 8 starts between the two organizations. He struck out 56 batters in 55.2 innings and tossed two complete games with one shutout.
