Slammers Drop Finale to Boomers

Joliet, IL- The Joliet Slammers (37-50) fell to Schaumburg (36-51) mustering just four hits off of Boomers' ace Eddie Cody.

In the top of the first Schaumburg found the scoresheet against Kevin Walter. SS Ryan Brockett and LF Ken Kirshner singled. DH John Menken did the same which scored Brockett, 1-0 Boomers early.

The visitors added another run in the third. Ken Kirshner kept his night going with a single and two stolen bases, swiping second and third. John Menken grabbed his second RBI with a sacrifice fly to center doubling the Boomers' lead to 2-0.

Schaumburg added a run in the fourth when RF Ty Nelson was plunked on the first pitch of the inning. 1B Connor Walsh bounced out to Marc Flores at first to put a runner on second with one out. C Jared Welch singled to score Walsh extending the lead to three.

The Slammers answered back in their half of the fourth. 3B Mike Garza showed some wheels tripling down the left field line. LF Jeremy Nowak hit a comebacker that glanced off of Eddie Cody, Ryan Brockett got the out at first but Garza scored to trim the deficit to two.

Ty Nelson got his payback against Kevin Walter with a laser over the left field wall to extend the Boomers' lead to 4-1 after six.

With Luke Crumley on the mound, the Boomers added some insurance in the eighth. Ty Nelson reached base for the third time with a walk. Jared Welch recorded his second RBI with a double down the left field line that Nelson scored on despite the close play at the plate. 2B Cam Sherrer reached on an error by Alfredo Rodriguez at short, Welch moved to third. Ryan Brockett hit a sacrifice fly to center, 6-1 Schaumburg after eight.

The Slammers would go quietly in the final frame against reliever Jake Joyce dropping the series finale and losing two of three. Eddie Cody's six innings earned himself another win (9-4) Kevin Walter got the loss (2-8). Our M & M Bank Player of the Game was Hunter Ridge who was 2-for-3.
