CornBelters Rally Late, Defeat Aviators in Game 1

Rockford Aviators News Release

LOVES PARK - The Aviators carried a 3-2 lead into the 9th against the CornBelters Friday but could not hold on for the victory, ultimately falling 4-3 at Aviators Stadium. The loss dropped the Aviators into a tie for the final wild card spot with the Florence Freedom.

Roberto Padilla allowed 2 runs in the first inning on the hill for the Aviators but would hold down the CornBelters during the rest of his start, pitching into the 7th and severely limiting one of the league's best offenses in the process.

The Aviators got a run from Raul Linares in the bottom of the first to halve the lead, and then took it away from the CornBelters in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Fox and Linares and an RBI groundout by Michael Hur.

After Colby Holmes finished the 7th and Matt Frahm threw a scoreless 8th, Patrick Dolan entered to go for the save in the top of the 9th. He pinned the Belters down to their last strike twice, but two singles and three wild pitches allowed Normal to score twice and retake the lead.

They would hold on in the 9th behind their starter Chris Carmain, who went the distance for his 7th win.

The Aviators meet up with the CornBelters again tomorrow at 7:05. Payton Baskette is expected on the hill for the home squad. The final fireworks display of the regular season will follow the game.
