Atkins Season-High 9 K's in 'Dogs 3-0 Win at Binghamton

Binghamton, NY - Mitch Atkins (4-7) fanned a season-high 9 batters over 7 innings, leading the Portland Sea Dogs (48-75) to a 3-0 win over the Binghamton Mets (58-66) on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium.

Atkins scattered three hits, did not issue a walk, earning his first win since July 29th at Binghamton. The lone jam for the righty came in the fourth inning when the Mets had runners at the corners, but Atkins fanned Matt Oberste and Victor Cruzado to end the frame.

Mauricio Dubon put the Sea Dogs on the board, launching a solo-homer (#4) off losing pitcher Josh Zeid (4-4) in the third. In the fourth, Cody Decker hit his team-leading 12th homer off Zeid. Henry Ramos was transferred to Portland before the game from Triple-A Pawtucket and nailed an RBI single in the sixth.

Jake Drehoff stranded two in the eighth inning to earn his third hold of the save. Luis Ysla tossed a scoreless ninth for his second save of the season, his first was on April 9th at Reading.

Portland had just three hits, all to knock in runs. Binghamton received 3 of 4 hits from 2B Phillip Evans, who is now 20 for his last 30.

The Sea Dogs and Binghamton Mets play game two of their series on Saturday night beginning at 7:05 PM Pregame coverage on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 6:45 PM. RHP Keith Couch (8-4, 3.16) makes his 14th start of the season for Portland. Binghamton counters with righty Tyler Herron (2-5, 6.00).
