Harrisburg Senators News Release

TODAY'S GAMES The Senators and Richmond Flying Squirrels play game one of a three-game series tonight at The Diamond in Richmond. The Senators have won eight of the ten games played between the teams including five of the six games played in Richmond. The Squirrels are 7-10 in August but have just a 2.68 ERA. With their loss last night, the Senators and Akron RubberDucks are tied for the Western Division wild card. The Senators hold the advantage over Akron by virtue of winning the season series, however, Akron will only play 141 games this season due to a canceled game.

TODAY'S STARTING PITCHER FOR HARRISBURG Phillips Valdez is on the hill for the Senators tonight. He's struggled in his past two starts going 1.2 innings on 8/9 at Altoona and four innings on 8/14 against Binghamton. He's made one start this year against Richmond and it was on 7/21 at FNB Field. Valdez went seven innings in that game allowing eight hits and two runs. That start began a streak of three consecutive seven inning starts.

REMAINING SCHEDULE MAKE-UP The Senators have 19 games remaining, 11 on the road and 8 at home. Of the remaining games, 10 are against the west and 9 against the east (all against Hartford). There are 4 DH games and 15 without. By series the Senators play at Richmond (3), Altoona (3), at Hartford-NH (4), at Bowie (4), and Hartford (5).

ROUGH TIMES Since the all-star break the Senators are 16-19 and since beginning a road trip on July 28 they are 6-14. In their past 20 games they have a 4.45 ERA and opposing hitters are batting .283.

Offensively the Senators are hitting .237 and are averaging 3.6 runs per game.

ROSTER MAKE-UP The Senators have 18 home grown players either drafted or signed as nondrafted free agents.

Of the twelve position players on the roster, eleven are homegrown in the Nationals organization. Eleven players are on the current active roster that started the season with the Senators.

PLAYING CLOSE GAMES In games decided by two runs or less, the Senators are 34-25 (.593). Harrisburg is 47-1 when leading after eight innings this season. The only blemish is a walk-off loss on 6/24 at New Hampshire.

WINNING MONTHS The Senators have had three straight winning months for the first time since June, July, and August 2013. In the past three months the Senators were 51-36 (.586). In 2013, they were 49-36 (.576).

WALK-OFF MAGIC After being walked-off eleven times last year, the Senators have bounced back to win seven games, thus far, in walk-off fashion.
