Hartford Yard Goats News Release

TRENTON, NJ- Pitching won out over hitting Friday night, as the Trenton Thunder stopped the Hartford Yard Goats, 2-0, on a combined shutout by right-handers Ronald Herrera and J.R. Graham. The Yard Goats, who entered the game tied for the league lead in hitting with a .267 team batting average, mustered only seven hits and got only one runner as far as third base against the Yankees' affiliate, which has the EL's best team ERA (3.07). Hartford was the home team in the contest played at Trenton's ARM & HAMMER Park.

Herrara (10-7), aquired by the Yankees in the off season from San Diego for INF/OF Jose Pirela, stymied Hartford on four hits and eight strike outs, but was lifted after throwing only 72 pitches in seven innings. Graham came on to pitch two scoreless innings, though he had to strike out Ryan McMahon with runners at the corners to end the game.

Tough luck Hartford starting pitcher Zach Jemiola (7-8), scattered seven hits and allowed only two earned runs in seven innings of work. He struck out four and did not walk a batter. Rosell Herrera, no relation to the Trenton starting pitcher, and Wilson Soriano led the Hartford offense with two hits each.

With the victory, Trenton improved its lead to seven games over third place Hartford and six games in the loss column in the race for the final playoff spot.

The series continues Saturday afternoon at Trenton. LHP Sam Howard (4-6) will pitch for the Yard Goats against RHP Kyle Haynes (1-0) for Trenton. Game time is 1:00 PM and can be heard on NewRadio 1410 WPOP and on the iHeart radio app.
