Trenton Thunder News Release
TRENTON, NJ - Though they were wearing the road grays, the Trenton Thunder felt right at home tossing their 14th shutout of the season against the Hartford Yard Goats, 2-0, at ARM & HAMMER Park.
In a game that was played in Trenton due to the impending construction of Dunkin Donuts Park, the Thunder got a dazzling start from Ronald Herrera, who went seven innings and allowed just four hits on 74 pitches. The right-hander notched his team-leading 10th win of the season and lowered his season ERA to 3.62. His eight strikeouts over seven innings fell one shy of his season-high from July 31st against Altoona.
Righty J.R. Graham came off the disabled list to polish off the Goats over the final two innings. He hadn't pitched in a game for the Thunder since early July and went the final six outs for his fourth save of the season. The two scoreless innings notched an Eastern League leading 14th shutout and lowered the team ERA to a franchise-best 3.04.
The offense got a double from Tyler Wade in the 3rd inning and Mike Ford in the 4th inning, and both men came around to score on RBI singles from Dustin Fowler and Jose Rosario to give the Thunder an early multi-run cushion.
With the win, Trenton extends their lead over Hartford in the standings for the second and final playoff spot in the East Division to 7.0 games with 17 games remaining in the regular season. There are two games left in this "roadtrip" for the Thunder, with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday at ARM & HAMMER Park. Gates open at 12:00 p.m. both days and general admission tickets are just $5.00. Pregame coverage of the games begins at 12:45 p.m. on 91.3 FM and online at www.trentonthunder.com.
