Toronto Argonauts News Release

Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to announce that it has selected three GTA prospects with its first three picks in the 2013 CFL Canadian Draft. After taking OL Matt Sewell (Milton, ON) with the eighth overall pick, the Double Blue selected DB Jermaine Gabriel from Scarborough. The Argos then traded picks 39, 40, and 44 for the 22nd pick from Saskatchewan, with which they selected futures prospect WR Natey Adjei from Mississauga.

Commented, General Manager Jim Barker on Gabriel, "Jermaine Gabriel is a tremendous athlete. He played one year for Calgary in the Canadian Junior Football League and was named the Prairie Conference MVP. We expect him to compete hard and be a solid contributor on special teams."

Gabriel, out of Scarborough, Ontario, was the first person in CFL history to be selected to move on from a regional combine to a national combine. In Toronto, Gabriel had an impressive showing, ranking second in the 40-yard dash (4.50) and fourth in the vertical jump (40.5").

Commented Gabriel, "This is a dream come true. Growing up watching the Argos in Rogers Centre, I always dreamt of playing for the Double Blue. I still can't believe my name was called."

Natey Adjei is a speedy receiver who was born in Mississauga, Ontario and just finished his second last season at the University of Buffalo. Prior to his time at Buffalo, he played at the City College of San Francisco.

Barker added, "Making this trade was a great opportunity to get a very good player. Natey still has one year left at the University of Buffalo and he is another local prospect that we are very excited about."
