Anthony Ranaudo Named to Eastern League All-Star Team

Portland, Maine- The Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs has announced the 2013 Eastern League Year-End All-Star Team. The 13-player roster features Portland Sea Dogs pitcher Anthony Ranaudo as the teams' right-handed pitcher. The team is voted on by respective Eastern League team managers and coaching staffs, sportswriters, radio and television broadcast personnel and other members of the media.

Ranaudo posted an 8-4 record with a 2.95 ERA (39 ER/ 109.2 IP) with 106 strikeouts in 19 starts for the Sea Dogs this season. The 23 year-old earned a promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket on August 2nd. At the time of his call-up, the 6'7", 230 lb. hurler was leading the Eastern League in WHIP (1.09) and batting average against (.204). He was also ranked third in ERA (2.95), tied for seventh in wins (8) and tied for eighth in strikeouts (106). On June 13th, he tied a Sea Dogs franchise record by striking out 13 batters, a career high for Ranaudo, in a 2-0 win over Erie.

Ranaudo was named the starter for the Eastern Division in the 2013 Eastern League All-Star Game in New Britain, Connecticut and participated in the prestigious MLB All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field in New York on July 14th.

Since joining the Pawtucket Red Sox on August 2nd, Ranaudo is 2-1 with a 3.42 ERA (10 ER/ 26.1 IP) with 16 strikeouts.

The Jackson, New Jersey native entered the 2013 season ranked as the #6 pitching prospect in the Red Sox system and the 14th overall according to Baseball America. Ranaudo was the Red Sox third pick (39th overall) in the June 2010 draft out of Louisiana State University.

Will Middlebrooks (3B) and Chih-Hsien Chiang (OF) in 2011 were the last Sea Dogs to be selected to the Eastern League Year-End All-Star team.

The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field for the final homestand of the 2013 season; a five game/ four day Labor Day weekend series against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees), kicking off with a 6:00 PM game on Friday, August 30th.
