Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron, OH - The 2013 Eastern League post-season all-star team was announced on Thursday, and two Akron Aeros players have been honored for their accomplishments on the field this season.
First baseman Jesus Aguilar and right fielder Carlos Moncrief were each named to the all-league team, which was voted on by the league's managers, coaches, sportswriters and broadcasters. Aguilar and Moncrief have been key players for the Aeros this season, and both have enjoyed career-years. Moncrief was among three outfielders named to the all-star squad, and Aguilar made the list as designated hitter.
Aguilar, 23, has played in 127 of the Aeros' 137 games this season, and has developed into the top power prospect in the Indians organization. He has set a new Aeros franchise record with 101 RBI, a figure that leads all of Double-A baseball. He is hitting .274, with 16 homers and 28 doubles to going along with his 101 RBI. The Maracay, Venezuela, native is hitting .335 with runners in scoring position, and a whopping .397 with runners in scoring position and two outs. He has chalked up a number of clutch hits for the Aeros this season, including a walk-off single in the 12th inning for a 3-2 win over New Hampshire on June 4th.
Moncrief, 24, has been equally impressive, anchoring right field in 124 games this season. Earlier in the summer in its Best Tools survey, Baseball America ranked Moncrief's arm as the best in the EL. He is currently tied for the league lead with 16 outfield assists. He is hitting .286, with 16 home runs and 73 RBI. Moncrief ranks fifth in the EL in extra-base hits (48), and fourth in total bases (221). The Jackson, Mississippi, resident had a team-high 15-game hitting streak from May 29th to June 16th. During the streak, he hit .314. Moncrief also has two walk-off singles this season, winning games against Bowie on May 4th, and Harrisburg on May 30th.
