Trio of Squirrels Honored as Season-Ending All-Stars

RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels, in conjunction with the Eastern League, are pleased to announce that three players have been selected to the Eastern League Season-Ending All-Star Team. LHP Jack Snodgrass, OF Javier Herrera and IF Mark Minicozzi were chosen through voting conducted by league managers, media members and fans. The Season Ending All-Star roster is comprised of players from both divisions. Richmond is the only team to have as many as three players honored.
Mark Minicozzi (INF) - Minicozzi has been a constant in the Squirrels lineup this season. Minicozzi is currently tied for the league lead in batting average (.308) and is fifth in the league in on base percentage (.398). Minicozzi was also selected to the mid-season All Star Game in New Britain, CT and was the runaway selection as the league's player of the month in May. The 30-year old is in his second stint with the San Francisco Giants after re-signing with the organization in May of 2012. He was originally drafted by the Giants out of East Carolina in 2005.

Javier Herrera (OF) - Herrera has reemerged on the prospect radar while spending his first season in the Giants organization. Twice named as an overall MiLB top-100 prospect during his years with the Oakland Athletics, the 28-year old has showcased all five tools this season. He currently leads the Eastern League in doubles (37) and is second in extra-base hits (56) and total bases (230). Herrera is also third in the EL in hits (139) and 7th in batting average (.298). A native of Caracas, VZ, Herrera signed with the Giants as a minor league free agent during the off-season in 2012.
Jack Snodgrass (LHP) - Snodgrass has lead the Squirrels pitching staff throughout the season and is one of just three pitchers selected to the Season-Ending All-Star team. Snodgrass is currently tied for second in the Eastern League in wins (11) and tied for third in WHIP (1.19).The lefty began the season by co-authoring the first no-hitter in Flying Squirrels history in his Double-A debut against the New Britain Rock Cats on April 5th. The Austin Peay State product was also selected to the Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star team and was also a California League All-Star while a member of the San Jose Giants in 2012. He was selected by the Giants in the 27th round of the 2011 draft.
The Squirrels play their final road game of the regular season tonight in Reading at 7:05 PM. Richmond returns home for the final four games of the regular season on Friday, August 30th against Harrisburg. Richmond has an elimination number of three and are 3.5 games out of a playoff spot with five remaining. Limited tickets for the upcoming homestand are available at www.squirrelsbaseball.com.
